Elections: We need YOU

It is soon time for the current committee to step down and for a new, harder/better/faster/stronger committee to be elected. This means one thing… elections!

If you have enjoyed the kind of activities we are organising/have ideas for improvements or want to put on new events, get involved with the committee for the academic year 2016-17! We plan to hold elections in May so that we can show the new committee the ropes before the official hand-over in July. If you are interested, please drop an email to imperialsiam@gmail.com

THANKS to all our JAMS Speakers

We are very grateful that we had so many amazing speakers this year. The JAMS have become more popular and much more diversified, which is mainly thanks to so many people volunteering to give presentations.

All JAMS speakers from this academic year will receive a special SIAM mug. The committee officially thanked our speakers at the special JAMS on Friday 22 April to honour their contribution to the SIAM chapter at Imperial. The colourful design has been created by our very own artist Adam Gosztolai. If you haven’t received your mug yet, you can pick it up from Adam in 6M28, or from Anderson’s office any time before the end of the academic year.

The JAMS on Friday 22 April was a success with many new faces turning up to the talk by Sergio Perez. Many interesting discussions were had over post-seminar lunchtime pizza and drinks.

Movie Night 2

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is definitively a movie worth seeing. It is a political satire of Cold War and it reflects the fear of a nuclear conflict between the USA and the USSR. Amazingly, this movie was released… during the Cold War in 1964. We hope everyone had enjoyed as much as we did! Looking forward to the next Movie Night!

Maths Help Desk Launch a Success!

Thank you everyone for attending the launch event for the Maths Help Desk! I think it is safe to say that the event was a success. Since the creation of the Maths Help Desk Email we have received quite a few questions for our Mathematicians and even a few questions from our Mathematicians. We have recently matched 4 pairs of researchers from varying departments who are now tackling approximately 7 questions! We have many more questions from fellow PhD’s that will be matched soon.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like to submit a question or would like to be contacted if others have a question that you can help with!

Here are some photos from the event; hopefully another one will be held soon 🙂
